Introduction of The Yuan Bao Temple Gods (Part IV)


DOU MU YUAN JUN ( 斗母元君 )



Dou Mu (斗姆) is the mother of the stars of the Big Dipper. She is usually simply called the 'Big Dipper", or 'Primordial Sovereign of the Big Dipper" ( 斗母元君 Dou Mu Yuan Jun ). As the governor of the Pavilion of Heavenly Treasure ( 天宝 - Tian Bao Ge ), the Big Dipper, "as the mother of the Dipper Stars, produces the brilliant eyes of all the heavens. She, with the Dipper as her terrestrial spirit and water celestial spirit, is in charge of life

Most often, she is depicted with three eyes in each of her four faces; with four arms on each side of her body. Two of her hands are held together, and the other six hold a sun, moon, bell, golden seal, bow, and halberd. She is either standing/sitting on top of a lotus or pig.
Under her mercy, those who miss the time of salvation catch up with the time of salvation. In charge of the safety of pregnancy and birth, as well as the healing of diseases, she takes the important role of Heavenly Healer ( 天医 Tianyi ) ". "Seated on her precious throne, the Big Dipper peacefully cultivates divine perfection, refines celestial and terrestrial spirits, concentrates Vital Breath with an empty mind, and enters the Mystery of Mysteries.

YUE LAO (月老)


















The old man under the moon, 月下老人, commonly known as Yue Lao,月老, is in charged of marriage and love between man and woman. Yue-Lao is known as the God of Marriage, and takes care of the marriages of all humans. As the Chinese saying, ‘marriage of a thousand miles bond by a string’. As Yue-Lao ties a red string on the foot of a man and a woman, they will end up together as husband and wife.

CAI SHEN (财神 "God of Wealth")

















Cai Shen (财神 "God of Wealth") is god of prosperity worshipped in the Chinese indigenous religion and Taoism. He can be referred to as Zhao Gongming (Chao Kung-ming) or Bigan. Cai Shen's name is often invoked during the Chinese New Year celebrations. He is often depicted riding a black tiger and holding a golden rod. He may also be depicted with an iron tool capable of turning stone and iron into gold.
